Yi Ting fails to enter semi-finals

SWIMMER Siow Yi Ting came within striking distance of earning a place in the semi-finals of the women's 200m breaststroke at the National Aquatic Centre last night.

She smashed her six-year-old national record of 2:29.21 in winning Heat 2 in 2:27.80. The time put her in 19th place in a 41-swimmers competition. The top 16 get into the semi-finals but Yi Ting can take heart in managing personal best times in her third Olympic appearance.

The 23-year-old clocked a season's best of 2:17.11 in the 200m individual medley on Monday, which was just outside her national record of 2:16.92 set two years ago.

It will be Daniel Bego's and Khoo Cai Lin's chance to chase down personal bests today. Daniel will swim the men's 100m butterfly while Cai Lin will race in the 800m freestyle.
