Czech Republic’s David Kostelecky wins gold medal in trap shooting

Czech shooter David Kostelecky downed all 25 birds in the final of men's trap despite heavy rain at the Beijing Shooting Range, presenting his country a second shooting gold with 146 hits on Sunday.

Even during the qualification round, David Kostelecky with 121 target-hits had the highest score. The silver medal in the Men’s trap event went to Giovanni Pellielo of Italy, who hit 23 targets in the final and 120 in the qualification rounds. A shoot-off was conducted for Michael Diamond of Australia and Alexey Alipov of Russia as both had hit 142 targets in total.

At the end, it was the Russian who secured the bronze hitting all of the three targets. Diamond managed to hit only two of the three targets. Kostelecky was the overnight leader in the event after hitting 73 targets after the first three qualification rounds on August 9.
Kostelecky, who won silver at the 2006 World Cup Final, held his nerves to catch each of the plate. His wonderful performance aroused applauses from audiences.
