Schipper wins bronze in 200m butterfly

Australia's Jess Schipper has won the bronze medal in the 200m butterfly after being blown away by Chinese swimmers Liu Zige and Jiao Liuyang at the Beijing Olympics.

The reigning world champion was unable to hold off the fast finishing pair who shattered the Queenslander's world record in the four-lap event.

Liu (2:04.18) and Jiao (2:04.72) both went well under Schipper's old mark of 2:05.40 with the Brisbane swimmer touching the wall in 2:06.26.

Schipper said she came to Beijing hoping to take home an individual medal and has checked that box - twice.

"I'm pretty lucky, I came here with a goal to achieve - an individual medal - and I've got two of them so I'm very happy," she told the Seven Network.

She said the race went to plan and she would head back to training with plenty to work on.

"That was pretty much the plan, just take it out and try and hold on," she said.

"I've definitely learnt a lot from this meet and I have something to work on I suppose for the future."
