Pellegrini breaks world record in women's 200 free

taly's Federica Pellergini broke the women's 200 metres freestyle world record in a time of one minute 55.45 seconds in the heats at the Beijing Olympics on Monday.

Pellegrini, also the 400m world record holder, knocked 0.07secs off the previous world record of 1:55.52 held by Laure Manaudou of France.

"That was revenge for what happened this morning," said Pellegrini, who finished fifth in the 400m free. "I didn't want to set a world record, but I felt good in the water."

Slovania's Sara Isakovic, the 200m free European champion who took second in the heat, said she was happy for her Italian rival.

"I felt bad for her in the 400 this morning," Isakovic said. "I was expecting her to win there, maybe there was too much pressure on her."
