Guo Wenjun Claims Olympic Record & Gold In Women's 10m Air PistolThe 24 year-old Guo Wenjun of China put up an excellent show to bag gold in the ongoing Beijing Olympics� Women's 10m Air Pistol event on Sunday, August, 10. She shot a score of 102.3, which took her total score to 492.3, an Olympic record for the final score.
Natalia Paderina of Russia (489.1 points) bagged the silver medal, whereas Nino Salukvadze of Georgia (487.4 points) took away the bronze. Guo Wenjun, the World No 1, had to beat the Russian to emerge winner as Paderina had shot an Olympic record 391 in the qualification round.It was Marina Logvinenko, another Russian, who set the earlier qualification Olympic record of 390 in 1996 at Atlanta. Guo not only managed to equal this record, but also performed superbly in the final. Russian rival Natalia Paderina too aided Guo Wenjun to win by shooting poorly during her second shot.
