Michael Phelps, along with Garrett Weber-Gale, Cullen Jones, and Jason Lezak, fetched the gold medal in the Men’s 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay and created a world record for second time in a row. The yesterday’s prelim record of 3:12.23 set by Jones, with the teammates Nathan Adrian, Ben Wildman-Tobriner, and Matt Grevers, was replaced by Phelps’ team that took time of 3:08.24.
With this second gold, Phelps is encouraged to go right for a perfect eight gold medals and break the record of seven gold medals set by Mark Spitz of USA in the Olympic Games. In the second relay, Michael Phelps was followed by the French quartet of Amaury Leveaux, Fabien Gilot, Frederick Bousquet and Alain Bernard (3:08.32), and the Australian quartet of Eamon Sullivan, Andrew Lauterstein, Ashley Callus and Matt Targett (3:09.91).
In his first swimming final at the Beijing Olympics Michael Phelps has taken the gold medal in the men’s 400 meter individual medley, setting a new world record time of 4:03.84. The previous WR was 405.25 and the Olympic record 407.82.
László Cseh from Hungary finished second to capture the silver medal. Ryan Lochte trailed Phelps most of the way but drifted a little towards the end and finished third to take the bronze medal.
