Spanish cyclist fails Games doping test 2008 Beijing Olympic Games

Moreno, 27, who would have been a rival of Britain's gold medallist Nicole Cooke, tested positive for the blood-doping agent EPO.

The drugs test was carried out on July 31 and she left Beijing later that day without offering an explanation.

All the hard work and perseverance paid off for Spanish cyclist Samuel Sanchez as he won the men's road race gold on the opening day of the Beijing Olympics on Saturday, August 9. He completed the men’s road race event in six hours, 23 minutes and 49 seconds. The silver medal went to Italy’s Davide Rebellin and bronze to Switzerland’s Fabian Cancellara.

During the first 40 kilometres, however, all were surprised to see Patricio Almonacid of Chile and Horacio Gallardo of Bolivia in the lead. But the two still posed little threat to biggies like Samuel Sanchez of Spain and Paolo Bettini of Italy, who easily took over the rest of the lot in the race later.Cuba cruised to a 25-15, 26-24, 25-17 straight set win over an uninspiring USA side at Capital Gymnasium on Monday and is now in top spot in pool A.

The Italian Women’s Volleyball team maintained their winning record in pool B with a straight-sets win 25-19, 25-15, 25-21 over Kazakhstan at the BIT Gymnasium on Monday, August 11. Italy keeps pace with Brazil and Serbia at the top of the pool with the win. Kazakhstan joins Russia and Algeria at the bottom of the pool.

The women’s team from the Republic of Korea (ROK) preceded the Chinese to win the Archery Women's Team gold medal match on Sunday, August 10. The Team of the Republic of Korea comprised Park Sung-Hyun, Yun Ok-Hee and Joo Hyun-Jung. The ROK team scored 224 out of a possible 240 points.
