Tine Rasmussen from Denmark, regarded as the biggest threat to reigning Chinese women's singles shuttlers, was stopped at the threshold to quarterfinals by Maria Kristin Yulianti from Indonesia in Beijing Monday. The tiny Indonesian, on the contrary, exerted all her capabilities and reversed the game result at 18-21, 21-19 and 21-14. Down in the first game, Maria fought back in the second leading 20-16 before Rasmussen managed to tail 20-19.
However, Rasmussen's hope to force for a deuce dashed after Maria's lob that seemed to be out was annulled by the referee after the linesman gestured by closing his eyes. Maria managed to conclude the game and forced for a rubber set after Rasmussen's stroke was out. Saina Nehwal of India beats Chen Wang of Hong Kong in the Women's Singles Round of 16 to reach the quarterfinals. Chen Wang of Hong Kong is ranked no.5 in the world. Saina defeated Chen 21-19, 11-21, 21-11 in 52 minutes.
