A fifth-seeded tandem of Zimbabwe's Cara Black and Indian Leander Paes captured the mixed doubles title at the 2008 U.S. Open. Black-Paes bested an unseeded pairing of American Liezel Huber and Brit Jamie Murray 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 in Thursday's finale at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The winning team will split $150,000.
In women's doubles, the 10th-seeded tandem of American Lisa Raymond and Aussie Samantha Stosur secured a spot in the final.
Raymond-Stosur stopped a fourth-seeded pairing of Slovenia's Katarina Srebotnik and Japan's Ai Sugiyama 7-5, 6-1.
The 35-year-old Raymond and 24-year-old Stosur will meet the winner of the other semifinal between the top-seeded team of Zimbabwe's Cara Black and American Liezel Huber and the fifth-seeded duo of Spaniards Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual.The Wimbledon runners-up Raymond and Stosur were the U.S. Open champs in 2005.
